Ian Liddle

Ian Liddle is a Dorset-based painter and graphic artist whose work combines expressive observation with a strong graphic sensibility. After spending twelve years living and working in Berlin, Liddle returned to the UK, where his practice has increasingly focused on painting and drawing from life, as well as en plein air work inspired by the landscapes and atmosphere of the South West.

Working across drawing, painting, printmaking, collage, and commercial projects, Liddle’s work is distinguished by its use of bright, clean colour palettes and confidently spontaneous forms. His approach balances immediacy with precision, capturing fleeting moments, light, and movement through direct observation and intuitive mark-making.

Influenced by both contemporary graphic culture and traditional observational practice, Liddle creates work that feels energetic, tactile, and deeply connected to place. His paintings and drawings reflect a commitment to process and experimentation, with each piece retaining the freshness and vitality of its making.

Now living and working in Dorset, Liddle continues to develop a multidisciplinary practice that bridges fine art and graphic expression through studio work, exhibitions, and ongoing projects.
